Sigma’s Specialty Equipment

Sigma Design is known for the design, development, and manufacturing of specialty industrial equipment for critical applications. We produce custom, turnkey solutions that meet the needs, operational goals, and industry standards of our customers.

Examples of Our Specialty Equipment

Laboratory Processing Equipment

Designed to enhance efficiency in histology laboratories, our Tissue Embedder and Cryo System are fully ergonomically optimized for user comfort and operational precision. Key components, including cold plates, paraffin melting chambers, and electronics, are designed and prototyped in-house for seamless integration of systems and reliable functionality. This equipment meets IEC 60601 and UL 60601 criteria.

High-Pressure Testing Chambers

The GM French Press, a Sigma innovation, produces pressures up to 40,000 psi to burst the walls of cells used for biomedical research. This groundbreaking equipment supports applications such as cell therapy, tissue growth, and large-scale biomedical production. It complies with GLP, GCP, GTP, and GMP standards, and provides reliable and reproducible results for critical scientific and industrial processes.

Flexible Machine Design

Sigma excels at developing custom machinery that supports lean manufacturing operations. Our portfolio includes test and assembly cells, laser welding systems, specialty conveyors, vision systems, pick-and-place mechanisms, and more. We use advanced engineering analysis methods to assess fluid flow, stress, and heat transfer to ensure reliable performance in a range of operating conditions.

Technologies We Use

Our designs integrate state-of-the-art technologies, including:

  • Laser and LED systems for precision tasks
  • Peltier and piezoelectric components for advanced thermal and mechanical control
  • Precision XYZ stage control for high-accuracy positioning
  • Stepper and peristaltic pumps for efficient fluid handling

From specialty conveyors to water filtration and processing systems, Sigma Design delivers reliable, high-performance solutions that are customized to your application.

Sigma’s Turnkey Process

Our end-to-end, turnkey approach means we are your dedicated partner for the lifespan of the project from design and engineering to manufacturing and product launch. The benefit to you is direct access to expertise at every step of the journey. This includes an experienced team that understands your requirements, anticipates potential pitfalls, and has the resources to keep your project moving forward.

Our comprehensive, turnkey engineering and design process includes:

The Concept Stage: Preliminary Investigation

We begin with a thorough review of your product concept. Whether you provide detailed instructions, rough sketches, or initial ideas, our team works closely with you to understand your goals. We’ll develop a 3D model for a tangible preview of the final product. At this stage, we also provide a preliminary manufacturing quote to establish project scope and budget expectations.

The Technical Feasibility Stage

In this stage, the initial design is refined by incorporating feedback from design review, modifications, relevant safety or industry standards, and any newly identified requirements. Detailed renderings and CAD drawings are created for simulation, modeling, and further analysis. This stage culminates with an initial prototype.

The Developmental Stage

This stage involves testing and refining the prototype to move toward a final design. We will assess the overall manufacturability of components and assemblies, and how this may impact timelines, materials, or manufacturing processes. Prior to production, we’ll work with you to define quantities and schedules.

Engineering, Design, and Drafting

Our engineering and design services include:

  • 3D modeling and CAD drawings for visualization, simulation, and planning
  • Stress and heat transfer analysis for durability and performance
  • Flow analysis and geometric tolerances for operational precision
  • Patent support to protect intellectual property
  • Comprehensive manufacturing drawings for efficient production

In-House Manufacturing Services

Manufacturing takes place in-house at our facility, which lets us control quality and timelines. Whether we’ve developed your design from scratch or worked with your finalized concept, you can expect top-tier results and build-to-print service. We also have the capacity to scale production to meet increasing product demand.
